Soap-opera narrator of times now gone, for centuries, millennia, he has been about in squares and plazas, doorsteps and wide spaces in cities, towns and villages, especially in during fairs, patron saint’s feasts and festivals, arousing feelings and emotions in the souls of his audience with his passionate and tragic tales. he would play and sing of happenings and events memorable for the people, drawn in part by everyday news, and in part by legends and myths adapted to the tastes and likings of the public. he would unroll and hang a canvas with fixed frames, in which characters were displayed to star in tales of love and drama, to a wall or a rudimental support.
He would narrate, with a suggestive and cadenced voice, the succession of events, pointing out the passages on the canvas with a long stick or cane, and underlining the prologues, interludes and epilogues with the notes of a guitar, harmonica or accordion.
